Early life and study between 1940 and 1961 – Nigeria (Kaduna State).

Trained as a medical Doctor at University of Lagos between 1962 and 1967.

Medical appointments between 1968 and 1970 include house officer, senior house officer and registrar posts.

Postgraduate medical education at Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle Upon-Tyne, England; University of Liverpool, England and John Hopkins University in the USA – all between 1970 and 1974. During this period he earned a diploma in Public health among other postgraduate medical degrees.

Consultant Physician, Ministry of Health, Kaduna State from 1973 – 1976.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Kaduna in 1976, a post he held for four years.

Chief Physician to President, Federal Republic of Nigeria between 1984 and 1987.

Pro-Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Makurdi between 1989 and 1991.

Federal Minister of Health between 1993 and 1995.

Senator and Senate Majority Leader, representing Kaduna North between 2003 and 2007.

Memberships of medical colleges and associations – Member of the Royal College of Physicians, England (MRCP) – 1971; Fellow, Nigerian Medical College of Physicians (FNMCP) – 1975; West African College of Physicians (FWACP) – 1975.

Campaign leader for the re-election of the current president of Nigeria, H.E. Dr Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan (GCFR, BNER, GCON) in 2011.

Nigeria High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2008 to date of award.
